Beauty 101 - The award-winning products taking the industry by storm

June 15, 2018

This years skincare guide to seriously flawless skin.

Be honest; does your heart skip a beat when you see the shining lights of Sephora and Selfridges offering some of the very best skincare products available on the market, all lined up on the gleaming shelves, crying out “pick me, pick me” promising everything from anti-ageing, complexion brightening, dark circle correcting and flawless skin!  When it comes to skincare, we just can't get enough – the days of slapping on any old moisturiser are long gone – now, having a curated routine is completely normal and you’d be hard-pressed to find a skincare lover who doesn’t know the difference between serums and moisturisers. Sure, some people may call our love for skincare vapid or pointless but we firmly believe that putting in the groundwork to your skincare routine isn’t an empty pastime and you will soon reap the benefits these products have to offer.

With new products launching in the beauty industry on a daily basis, we are here to talk about some of the award-winning products that are taking the industry by storm so far this year…

1. Shiseido Waso range

Skincare inspired by the holistic and natural Japanese food tradition of Washoku, the new Shiseido WASO skincare range uses key ingredients like carrot, loquat, honey, tofu and white jelly mushroom to help balance and build young skin’s resistance to stressors, as well as hydrate, target oiliness and visible pores and prevent the appearance of imperfections. Science and skincare normally comes with a hefty price tag - the Waso range has only one of those things going for it and that is science. We love the pastel packaging this comes in too!

2. Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask

A dry sheet mask? I know! When I first heard of these I couldn’t wrap my head around it. How could sheet mask that is dry, possibly accomplish anything?! Well unlike traditional sheet masks this one is dry because the active ingredients - brightening Vitamin B3, Peptides, Collagen-boosting crocus bulb extract are imprinted on the material and are slowly released. Hello plump, younger looking skin!

3. Clarins Renew-Plus Body Serum

Ah Clarins, one of the skincare industries favorite brands!

With body skincare becoming just as important as facial skincare, it was only a matter of time that Clarins came up with a cleanser for your body -

beautifying the body's largest organ from top to toe. Clarins Renew-Plus Body Serum eliminates dead skin cells, smoothes and softens skin. Smoothes lines and slackened skin, leaving it soft, toned and luminous. Water Lily extract ensures optimal hydration. Christophine and Olive extracts strengthen the moisturising action and prevent signs of skin ageing.

4. Ren Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic

It turns out that 'acid' isn't such a dirty word in skincare after all! It's a little known fact that skin must reach a pH of between 3.5-4 to trigger its natural exfoliation. This toner does just that, thanks to Salicylic and lactic acids, which work together to give dull skin an 'a-ha' moment! This effective, skin-resurfacing toner will exfoliate and brighten your complexion, whilst being gentle enough to use daily.

5. Lumity Supplements

Introducing a supplement into our skincare routine is becoming more and more commonplace. Facialist to the famous (including Meghan Markle), Nichola Joss, recommends Lumity supplements, which were created by Cambridge University graduate Sara Palmer Hussey PhD. The day and night capsules contain a clinically-tested blend of anti-ageing nutrients, helping protect against oxidative stress and damage.

6. Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-one Lactic Acid Treatment

Sunday Riley’s Good Genes is an exfoliating lactic acid treatment which can be used either as a serum or a mask. It has a white, milky texture and is designed to refine skin texture, boost circulation and plump up lines and wrinkles, as well as brightening the complexion. This hero product  is expensive, and yes, you are going to have some doubts about shelling out the money, but after a week of using this product you will be thanking the skin-gods for making the investment!

7. OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright Eye Crème

I am a mum of a 6 month old and a 2 year old, so dark circles and bags are a given unfortunately (*wipes tears!) but alas my knight in shining skincare is here!! Wake up before you makeup. Banana Bright Eye Crème brightens, instantly targets fine lines and wrinkles, and reduces the look of dark circles, delivering age-defying results. It supports natural collagen while visibly firming and deeply hydrating. Formulated with powerful vitamin C, it helps revive and illuminate the entire eye area over time. Inspired by the makeup artist must-have, banana powder, this yellow formula contains special pigments to instantly brighten and color-correct the eye area. But that’s not all: it creates a smooth, well-rested canvas and is proven to improve concealer wear. Dark circles are diminished and crow’s feet conquered. Now, go conquer the day with your refreshed and revived Ole Glow®.

8. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

This animal friendly Lip Sleeping Mask has a softening balm texture that closely adheres to lips for quick absorption. Enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants, its Berry Mix Complex™ offers a nutritiously sweet and fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts to indulge the senses. Its exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients. A generous layer of this soothing mask at bedtime helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and soft to the touch.

9. Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

In case you haven't heard, vitamin C is the bee's knees of ingredients, according to well, pretty much everyone who knows anything about skincare! Why? Vitamin C gobbles up the skin-damaging free radicals you're exposed to every day, giving you brighter (like way, way brighter), smoother, and more hydrated skin. And this little number from Drunk Elephant contains a gentle, yet effective, 15-percent concentration of the good stuff.

10. Institut Esthederm Adaptasun Face Cream

And now for the finale - my ultimate favorite all-year-round moisturiser. I have used this beauty for the last year or so as a base to pretty much everything. Adaptasun Face Cream Moderate Sun optimises cell protection and prevents photo-ageing thanks to their patented Global Cellular Protection technology. This cream stimulates, enhances and intensifies the glow of light or delicate skin that doesn't tan easily. Allows people with sensitive skin to enjoy the sun by minimising the risks of skin reactions. Hailed by dermatologists everywhere as the secret to young skin.

With 2018 just beginning, I am truly excited to find out what this year has in store for us, and I am sure that the skincare gods will not disapoint!
